How Jiu Jitsu Changed My Perspective

I started Jiu Jitsu at the end of February, just looking for a new challenge. I didn’t really know what to expect. All I knew was I needed something that would push me mentally, physically, and emotionally. What I didn’t realize was how much it would end up changing the way I see myself.

Those first few weeks were rough. I was constantly getting smashed, choked, and arm-locked by people half my size. It’s humbling in a way that’s hard to describe. Every time you tap, your ego takes a hit. But after a while, you stop taking it personally. You start realizing that every tap is a lesson, every round is a chance to get a little bit better.

A few months later, I signed up for my first tournament. I didn’t go there expecting to win. I just wanted to show up, test myself, and see what I was made of. I ended up taking gold in both Gi and No-Gi. 🥇🥇

That moment was surreal, but honestly, the medals weren’t what mattered most. The real win was proving to myself that I could keep showing up, even when I felt like quitting. That I could fight through self-doubt, exhaustion, and nerves, and still find something inside me worth believing in.

Training at 🌳 Good Tree MMA has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve been surrounded by incredible people who push me every single day. Rocco Stacchiotti, my training partner Albert, and everyone who’s rolled with me has helped me grow in ways I didn’t know were possible. You don’t really understand how much a team can shape you until you’re in an environment like that.

Jiu Jitsu teaches you resilience, but it also teaches you self-worth. You start realizing that your value isn’t in what other people think. It’s in what you earn through effort. It’s in how you handle failure. It’s in how you keep going when things get hard.

This journey has made me more confident, more grounded, and more grateful. I’m still early on this path, but I know this is something I’ll be doing for the rest of my life. It’s not just a sport. It’s a mirror that shows you who you really are and who you can become if you keep showing up.

Let’s see how far we can go. 🥋💪
